French Professor says spending so much money on “swine flu” vaccines is “indecent” when 200,000 children die each week from sicknesses that could be prevented

Professor Marc Gentilini, President of the French Red Cross

French Professor Marc Gentilini, an expert in infectiuous diseases and a member of the French National Academy of Medicine, said in an article published on the website of “Le Monde” that the attention paid to the “swine flu” pandemic is “indecent” seen within the context of the world’s health problems.

He notes that 200,000 children die every week from sicknesses, and many of them could have been be saved by the right medicines or by simple preventative measures.

There has been only one victim of the “swine flu” in France so far and that this person may have died of other causes.

He argues the “principle of precaution” should be applied and that there are simpler and cheaper solutions to any pandemic such as washing your hands and wearing a mask.

In addtion, he says the decision of the French government to spend € 1 billion euros on buying “swine” flu vaccine does not appear reasonable, observing that this sum is three times the amount of money France gives to developing countries.

Furthermore, Gentilini says nothing is known about the effectiveness of the “swine flu” vaccine or about its future possible undesirable side-effects. The “swine flu” virus, however, is harmless, and even if does mutates and become harmful, he notes the vaccine will become ineffective.

He refuses to speculate on whether pressure has been put on governments to lavish money on vaccines, but states that the mass vaccination programme is very profitable to the manufacturers of these vaccines. He argues that the vaccines are too expensive and the contracts should be renogiated.

Professor Gentilini also talks about WHO and their failure to tackle AIDS because of an “underestimation” of the seriousness of this disease. He notes that a million people die from malaria each year and little is done to help these people.

Also, he mentions that little attention is being paid to protecting the developing countries from the “swine flu”.
